Electrical contractors and electricians based in Newton Stewart serving Wigtownshire and South West Scotland.
Since starting out in this industry nearly 50 years ago I have worked on a wide range of sites from factories, offices, oil refineries and shipbuilding, gaining a lot of experience on the way.
It was against this background that I decided to start up as a contractor. I started out in this business 30 years ago as 1 man and a van in Wigtown. In 1986 we moved to Newton Stewart where we remain today. Shortly after this I employed my first apprentice.
My aim then is much as it is to-day and that is simply to deliver quality work using good quality materials.
Over the years we have trained a number of apprentices some whom of have left and are now successful tradesmen.
One of the apprentices was my son who like all our trainees completed the college course and became an electrician.
About seven years ago we were joined by Nigel Marshall who completed the coure and passed his final test with one of the highest scores in Scotland.
This is the team as it is today.
We are all time served electricians myself being a Journeyman Electician a term lost now.
We now have the modern apprenticeship which involves a period of 4-5 years of training split between college and practical work on site.
Training is always ongoing. As members of Select, Scotland’s trade association for the electrical industry, we receive regular training on Health and Safety, the current regulations and indeed the many changes facing the industry.
In using John McKeown Electrical Contractors you can be sure that we are fully trained in all aspects of the work we carry out and we receive regular assessments from our trade association to ensure compliance.
